The Chaos Walking adaptation postpones its premiere to March 2021

The long-awaited film Chaos Walking, which will adapt the first book in Patrick Ness’s trilogy of the same name, The Knife in His Hand, has postponed its release once again. It is expected to hit theaters on March 5, 2021, provided there is no new issue.

This delay is not surprising due to the general situation of COVID-19, but this joins others that the film has already had, which was originally going to be released on March 1, 2019, but had to be postponed to January 2021 to accommodate some new recordings.

The film, starring Daisy Ridley and Tom Holland, Chaos Walking has been in the works for a decade and has had screenwriters like Charlie Kaufman, John Lee Hancock and Gary Spinelli in the process. The first tests with the audience in 2018 received bad reviews, which led to new recordings. It was an added difficulty, as both Holland and Ridley were busy with the respective tapes of Spider-Man: Far From Home and Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. Finally, the recording could be completed in May 2019.

Doug Liman is the director of the film, known for Mr. and Mrs. Smith (2002), Fair Game (2010) and his latest science fiction film, Edge of Tomorrow (2014), starring Emily Blunt and Tom Cruise. Patrick Ness himself has co-written the script with Christopher Ford.

Both Holland and Riley have received recognition for their performances in Star Wars and Spider-Man and will be in charge of playing Todd and Viola, the protagonists of the film. They are both expected to be older in the movie as in the book they are around thirteen, while Ridley is twenty-eight and Holland is twenty-four.

The new recordings do not have to be a bad omen, other films like Rogue One (2016) have suffered them and then have had great success with critics and the audience. All that remains is to wait to see this adaptation.

The Chaos Walking trilogy has been published in Spain by the Nube de Tinta publishing label and consists of three parts: The Knife of Never Letting Go, The Question and the Answer (The Ask and The Answer) and From men to monsters (Of Monsters and Men). We encourage you to read them while we wait for the premiere.

Meanwhile, we leave you with the trailer in Spanish and the synopsis of the film:

Chaos Walking takes place in the not-so-distant future, and tells the story of Todd Hewitt (Holland) when he meets Viola (Ridley), a girl who has mysteriously landed on his planet. Todd lives in an area where there are no women and men are affected by “Noise”, a phenomenon that causes all his thoughts to be heard. As Todd vows to protect Viola, he begins to discover abilities about himself that he did not know and to unearth the dark secrets of her planet. The cast also includes Nick Jonas, Cynthia Erivo, Mads Mikkelsen, and Demian Bichir.
